Kochav Yaaqov is a beautiful, friendly and lively mixed-observant Jewish community just 6 miles (10 kilometers) north of Jerusalem. It is currently the home to over 1000 families, many different synagogues and minyanim, wonderful schools and activities for the youth. Many residents are Olim from all over the world, living the dream of being a physical part of the Holy Land of Israel.

UNIQUE FEATURES:

In addition to the stark beauty of these hills, there is an intangible quality to Kochav Yaakov that is very spiritual in nature. It can be sensed as you drive along the tree-lined yishuv entry. To the left is the new Shlav Hey homes that hint to the growth spurt of the community. Ahead and to the left is Tel Tzion and the sentry-like visual quality of the apartment buildings on the outer ring of the mount. To the right is the entrance to Kochav Yaakov with a beautiful mosaic imbedded into the stone wall to welcome and bless all who come. A sudden feeling of “home” overtakes the senses and even without knowing a single person, you feel as if you “belong”.

Kochav Yaakov is easily walkable from one end of the yishuv to the other and into Tel Tzion. Shopping necessities are all right here along with an abundance of home businesses and gemachs. You can find almost anything you need right here, including great pizza, bakery, falafel, shwarma and burgers!

Children are a prime factor in the make-up of our community. Playgrounds are strategically placed to maximize safety. There are several ganim throughout the yishuv to assist with your daily childcare needs.

The demographics of Kochav Yaakov span the generations. While true, most of the families have young children, there are not an insignificant number of older families and couples living and loving it here. We are proud to be multi-generational and our programs are starting to reflect this.

The Kochav Yaakov and Tel Tzion communities are eager to welcome and absorb new immigrants and offer a wonderful program to help new Olim. Even before you arrive, preparations are made for an easier transition, an especially true welcome while awaiting your lift. We offer “family buddies” to help you get your bearings for the first year, and it is soon clear that these “assignments” turn into life-long friendships!

This is Ahavat Yisrael in action, b’Simcha!
